About the Business:
Brookland Plantation on Edisto Island boasts historic features listed on the National Register of Historic Places and substantial frontage on Shingle Creek. It contains diverse habitats including maritime forest, saltwater marsh, sandy areas, orchards, evergreen upland forest, open fields and open water. The Greek revival house was built circa 1803 and beautifully restored in 2004. During its most recent renovation the house was painted a pluff mud color to blend into the tree trunks and surrounding landscape. The views include spectacular marsh vistas, an open pecan grove, a pond, and numerous live oaks draped with Spanish moss. Brookland is a part of 180,000 protected acres in the ACE Basin. The plantation’s traditional uses are protected under a conservation easement with the Low Country Open Land Trust. Scenes from Robert Redford’s movie The Legend of Bagger Vance were filmed on Brookland. The plantation is 40 miles from historic Charleston and just a few minutes upstream by boat from the Atlantic Ocean.
